Dear GIKI Alumni,
Assalam o Alaikum!

We’re in a terrible calamity this year. Coronavirus has not only infected hundreds of thousands of people but has also put the world economy at a halt. We’re at the cusp of the next recession and millions of people fear losing their jobs. A lot of people have contacted us individually for help in channeling their Zakat and Sadqat to the daily-wage workers and people in need. In collaboration with Kalim Trust (a social welfare trust of my family), we’re already in the process of distributing 1,000 ration bags with support from some of you (itemized bill for each bag attached). All beneficiaries are verified by our staff, friends, and family.

In addition to this, every year GIKI Alumni Association sponsors eligible students with Zakat collections from fellow alumni. Last year we collected PKR 10,984,000 and are supporting 27 students through the current academic year. In these hard times, I would request you not to forget students from GIKI while giving away your Zakat and Sadaqh. With the growing number of students applying to GIKI and the added poverty and inflation, we’re looking to raise PKR 20,000,000 of scholarships through this year’s Zakat/Sadaqah collection campaign. Our team conducts comprehensive interviews for profiling candidates and only deserving students, who are eligible for Zakat/Sadaqah donations, are shortlisted for the scholarships.

Allah says in the Quran:

And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord, if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.”

He has given us an amazing opportunity to help the people in need. Let us use all the means we have to help out the people in need to reserve a safe place for us in the Hereafter. Remember that every little contribution counts. You can find details about how to make your donations here.

May Allah protect and guide us all.

Regards,
Junaid Kalim
