They were welcomed at the Guest House by the Rector Dr. Fazal Khalid (SI), Pro-Rector, Deans and Faculty Members. After exchange of pleasantries, open and candid discussions were held with various members of the Alumnus of 1997-2022. They were later joined by the Honorable Minister for Finance and Health KPK Government Mr. Taimur Khan Jhagra. After a short meeting and refreshments all of them proceeded towards the Auditorium as per program. The Honorable Rector, President GIKIAA and Minister for Finance and Health KPK addressed the Reunion and shared their views.

The Honorable Rector, addressing the audience, thanked all the alumni who participated in the Reunion event. He also thanked the reunion committee and especially GIKI Alumni Association for their efforts to make the event successful.

Honorable President GIKIAA presented a short history of the alumni association and briefly described the activities of incumbent EC under his supervision. The audience along with Rector GIKI showed their trust and appreciation through clapping for the initiatives and achievements of the previous and incumbent GIKIAA EC in very short time.

The Honorable Minister in his speech described the role of his maternal grandfather Mr. Ghulam Ishaq Khan (late) in establishing the Institute and the unique qualities which have become synonymous with it. He also offered his support for the initiatives being under taken by the administration and GIKIAA, followed by a note of thanks.

A Q&A Session followed in which Alumnus of 1997-2022 introduced themselves, asked questions and made thought provoking suggestions for betterment of the institute and pledged to remain connected in the future.

At the end the Rector presented shields to the Honorable President of the GIKI-AA Barrister (Engr.) Habil Ahmed Khan, the Vice President Student Affairs Mr. Zain ul Hassan, and Treasurer Mr. Muhammad Azhar Khan for their support and participation in the Reunion.

Later Rector GIKI invited all guests to Lunch at the Faculty Hall.

Before proceeding for lunch, the Honorable President GIKIAA and Rector GIKI visited stalls along with their teams at Fun Fair Area. The stall of GIKI Alumni Association for GIKI Souvenirs was given specially attention by the Rector and other alumni visiting reunion. The Rector admired the initiative of GIKI Souvenirs by GIKIAA and suggested to keep good quality of the souvenirs and make it as a GIKI brand. Honorable President told him that he has given special instructions to VP Merchandise to have good innovative products and never to compromise on quality. Alumni visiting reunion showed special interest in GIKI souvenirs at GIKIAA stall and highly appreciated this initiative.

At the end of the program Honorable President GIKIAA was surrounded by several GIKI students who asked random intriguing questions. Honorable President GIKIAA answered them one by one and also advised the students to keep up the vision, set high goals and be the part of GIKI Alumni Association in future to serve GIKI, its alumni and Pakistan at large.

Rector GIKI payed special thanks to the Honorable President GIKIAA and his team for their support and participation in making Reunion 2022 a success.

After lunch, Honorable President  GIKAA had a meeting with the Deans, Director, and GIK Alumni reunion committee.

In the session with the Deans Directors and GIK Alumni reunion committee following points were discussed.

Dr. Imran, Co-Convener Alumni Reunion 2022 committee, informed Honorable President GIKAA about the final program of the Annual Alumni Reunion 2022 and told that schedule of the reunion has been revised and is now in line with the reunion held last year.

Honorable President GIKAA liked the idea of conducting the first session of the reunion in the auditorium consisting of speeches & entertainment, followed by lunch and a session of the Alumni in their respective faculties. President GIKAA was also informed about the registration status and marketing channels used by the GIK.

There was consensus on making the proceedings online for participation by Alumni unable to travel to GIKI.

It was also suggested that GIKIAA should have an annual calendar to follow and in the future should take responsibility of organizing the annual reunion with possibility of hosting it in different cities.

Honorable President GIKIAA was requested to ask GIKIAA Marketing VPs to improve their cooperation with Mr. Ali Shaukat and GIKIAA Marketing VPs to ensure strong promotional campaign for reunion event.

Furthermore it was also suggested that  Fund raising should be made more effective, with an emphasis on improvement of marketing on social media

Dean FCSE mentioned that alumni association should use Facebook, linkedin and other social media groups to market the event like there are city wise groups i.e Islamabad Lahore etc. this way event will be properly promoted among the alumni

Honorable President GIKIAA noted the points and assured to discuss it with his to work more effectively for reunion event promotion as well as fund raising.

Rector GIKI and team agreed with Honorable President GIKAA’s idea of having different chapters for different cities & countries. It will provide fresh graduates a platform for job internship hunts in their respective cities, districts & countries, etc. The local chapter will also help in arranging frequent events in their cities and not worrying about logistics and missing one event at GIK.

Honorable President GIKI Alumni Association informed deans and directors that the Alumni association is planning to form a business community/circle having C-Level representation from top tire Alumni. This community will facilitate the GIK Career Office, ORIC & faculties in organizing guest speaker sessions, Technical training, Workshops, Career development training, research and development activities, and bridging university industrial linkages. The community will also facilitate hiring talented fresh graduates in job & internship  placements.

The idea of GIKI Alumni Business Council was appreciated and fully supported by the Recto and his team.

President Alumni association asked the rector for the financial breakdown of the chair for the scholarship. The Director of Finance & Director (A&E) will contact the president Alumni association for providing information related to scholarships and other financial matters.

It was discussed and agreed that  GIKIAA EC and Honorable President shall organize the visit of Chairman NEPRA for a session with students on the latest developments in the power sector followed by an MOU signing ceremony between GIKI AND NEPRA to promote excellence in engineering.

The president of GIKAA delivered a talk to the students on the topic of the power sector of Pakistan.

Rector GIK Institute also presented shield as token of thanks to Honorable President GIKI Alumni Association.

The meeting started @10am in a pleasant environment. After brief introduction ideas were shared with each other.

Executive Director SOPREST appreciated the initiatives taken by Honorable President and its progress.

Following points were discussed in the meeting.

2. Meeting of Honorable President GIKIAA with the President of Pakistan

ED SOPREST endorsed this meeting and ensured his full support in this regard from GIKI and from his side personally. He agreed that such meetings will open new horizons towards the betterment for GIKI as well as GIKI alumni.

3. GIKI Alumni Business Council

Honorable President GIKIAA gave a brief on the idea of GIKI Alumni Business Council, his meeting with DGTO in this regard and the progress on it.

ED SOPREST appraised this initiative taken and the progress so far. He agreed that GIKI Alumni Business Council will not only benefit the alumni entrepreneurs but will also be worthy to highlight issues in Pakistan Business policies and providing productive and healthy suggestions by educated and experienced alumni which eventually will make the name of GIKI more prominent.

4. Inviting Foreign Faculties

Honorable President suggested inviting and connecting foreign institutes and universities with GIKI this will help improve the mentorship, PhD topics and curriculum correction / updating.

ED SOPREST admired the idea and requested Honorable President GIKIAA to help GIKI in this regard.

5. Endowment Fund (Chair Value)

Honorable President explained the GIKI Endowment fund and how he is will to set and start one Chair campaign to be sponsored perpetually. However, the one chair value is still to be announced by GIKI finance dept.

ED SOPREST endorsed the whole GIKIAA Endowment fund concept and especially the idea of one chair to be sponsored perpetually. He assured that he will personally follow-up with GIKI finance dept. so they communicate the value ASAP.

6. Miscellaneous GIKI matters

• Hostel Building status and Facilitations at GIKI

Upon the feedback from the students as well as the alumni, Honorable President urged the need to improve the maintenance of GIKI hostels as well as the facilitation provided.

EC SOPREST told that he is going to issue a cheque to cope with all these matters and assured that alumni and students will soon hear good news regarding this.

• Food and beverages quality

Honorable President also brought ED SOPREST notice towards the quality of food and beverages served at GIKI which need to be improved.

ED SOPREST noted the point to be taken with GIKI admin to improve the quality of food and beverages served at GIKI.

• Link Road to GIKI status

Honorable President also raised the point of worst condition of the road which links GIKI to motorway. He told that the road play important role in connecting GIKI to outside world and need to be taken care of.

ED SOPREST agreed and assured that he will personally raise the point with higher authorities and peruse until its done.

For this purpose a meeting was held with DGTO (Director General of Trade Organizations) on 27th October 2022, wherein it was discussed that (1) an Association can only be registered for a particular trade (2) only chambers of commerce can have multiple sectors represented (3) leaving us with the option of setting up a Business Council on the same pattern as the Pakistan Business Council with an informal arrangement with the Ministry of Commerce.

Feedback is solicited from all members to select one of the 3 options and organize the first round table of the Business Council.

Please find below a draft of objectives proposed for the GIKI Alumni Business Council for your kind review and suggestions:

1 It is a forum which supports the business of its members giving them a platform where they can engage with govt. entities for policy making

2 To provide for the formation and exchange of views on any question connected with the conduct of GIKI Alumni businesses in and from Pakistan.

3 To conduct, organize, set up, administer and manage campaigns, surveys, focus groups, workshops, seminars and field works for carrying out research and raising awareness in regard to matters affecting domestic businesses in Pakistan

4 To acquire, collect, compile, analyze, publish and provide statistics, data analysis and other information relating to GIKI Alumni businesses of any kind, nature or description and on opportunities for such businesses within and outside Pakistan.

5 To promote and facilitate the integration of GIKI Alumni businesses in Pakistan into the World economy and to encourage the development and growth of domestic Pakistani multinationals.

6 To interact with Governments in the economic development of Pakistan and to facilitate, foster and further the economic, social and human resource development of Pakistan.

7 There is lot of other business councils and firms but they are not active and thus not helping their members. Honorable President believes that GIKI Alumni are more active, educated and intelligent enough to help each other as well as give positive and brilliant suggestions to govt. of Pakistan to make business friendly policies.

Total 130 applicants applied this year and 58 candidates are awarded scholarship amounting Rs. 30.2 million.

This is the highest number in terms of candidates as well as the scholarship amount since 2004.

The Presidents were warmly welcomed and had discussion to work on the improvement of GIKI as well as alumni of GIKI.

The Rector thanked former President GIKI Alumni Association Mr. Junaid Kalim for his wonderful tenure and appreciated all the steps taken for the betterment of GIKIAA.

The Rector and former President GIKIAA both showed full confidence in incumbent President Barrister Eng. Habil Ahmed Khan that he will take GIKIAA to the next level.
